By the end of the year, nearly every man on this list will be deceased.
Some are already dead; the rest are waiting their turn.
These, are America's death row inmates that have been scheduled for execution in 2012.
You can read it all here... their crimes - their last meal - their final words (if any) and details of their execution!
This is a complete list of every contender. Some, as you can see, have already used their one way ticket to Palookaville, the rest are just waiting until it's time to use theirs.
Click an offender's name to read everything you want to know.
No females have been or are scheduled to be executed in 2012. But this can change, Linda Carty (the British grandmother) is one woman strongly expected to receive 'her date' anytime soon.
Most Americans don't see it that way. They probably look at Europe with its 'slap 'em on the bottom and let 'em out after 9 years' as crazy, and dangerous.
What would you do with vicious murderers, just curious?
Killing is wrong. Whether it's by a person or a Government. In some way it's worse when a Government does it; because it should be above such barbarism and inhumanity. We shame ourselves, America. The death penalty is a cowardly response to the violence in our society. Our gun laws are the root of our problems.
Cindy, thanks for sharing your view; very interesting.
I want to ask you, though, do you think you would abandon this view of yours if, say, you had a little girl, 6 years old, she's abducted, sexually abused and tortured over 3 days. Then she is strangled and her body tossed out the window of a truck into a ditch. She is found 3 weeks later by someone walking their dog?
What would you see when you stared at the 'man' in the courtroom that robbed you of your beautiful child and did all those unspeakable things to her, a human being?
And if the prosecutor has the option to go for the death penalty or life without parole, which would you, your family and every single person that ever met your child hope the prosecutor goes for?
It's something I have wondered about regarding Sister Helen Prejean.
Thanks once again for coming here and sharing your view on America's use of capital punishment.
This is absolutely fascinating. Well done Danny for putting all this together. I couldn't stop myself reading every single offender page once i had read the first few.
The problem with the death penalty is it takes so long to get rid of this scum. Why keep them housed and fed for years? Just do it and get it over with. I think this is what is hardest on the victim's families. Get rid of them and save food for the poor and needy. Now we have DNA there is no mistaking who the criminal is. Get them out of the gene pool. These people are also using tax payers money for their defence. Also, no last meal. What's with that?
I believe Texas has recently put a stop to the special 'final meal'. Condemned inmates eat the same as the rest of the prison population on the day of their execution.
As for it all taking so long from conviction to execution, I only guess at it being the authorities recognising that, however heinous the crime, they are still dealing with the life of a human being, and that average 10 years til execution allows for new evidence, mental health evaluations and appeals on the grounds of inadequate original defence etc.
the death penalty for some defendants is the only punishment, but there must not be any doubt about the guilt! I wish my country (Germany) would have it. It is simply wrong to free a murderer after 15 years!!!
I used to favour the death penalty but after reading up and learning about it i feel its wrong for a country/state to kill someone. Although they should be in prison for life killing them doesnt stop murder. America says it deters crime but show me proof of that. My country the uk is soft on murder i have always belived life should mean life but for countries around the world to execute a citizen of that country what does it prove murder doesnt stop if only it did but it doesnt
there scum, all of them and deserve to die
